FOR AS LONG AS I COULD HOLD A PENCIL I WAS drawing everything I SAW AROUND ME.

Summers spent staying in my granny's house as a child at the foot of the Mountains of Mourne with views of the sea has undoubtedly influenced my work.

Jacqueline Rooney

I'm a 43 year old mother of 2 beautiful boys - Finn and Evan and wife to an ever supportive husband, Scott. We live in the picturesque coastal village of Rostrevor in Co. Down, N Ireland

I graduated in 2000 with a B.Ed (hons) in Art & Design and was Head of Art in a busy secondary school before handing in my notice to pursue my passion for Art & Interiors. I feel the two are so intrinsically linked and I studied Interior Design to enhance my knowledge and expertise in this area.

I believe the right Artwork can enhance and complete any scheme and doesn't have to be restricted to the walls.

Following an exciting collaboration with renowned furniture designer and presenter of BBC's "The Repair Shop", Jay Blades I launched my own label of luxury velvet homewares and opened my new Art Gallery and shop in the heart of Rostrevor.

I have a particular process when taking my work from inception to completion.

I love to advise clients on the best piece of my Art to compliment and complete their home or business. Here’s my process

1

Observation

Before embarking on a painting I love to visit the location and do preliminary sketches and small paintings en plein air to really absorb myself in the setting. I gain inspiration from the weather, the sounds, the smells and beautiful surroundings. I then take a series of photographs before returning to my studio to begin the painting.

2

Planning

Many times a client will contact me and ask for a bespoke commission- a place or memory very special to them. I will usually meet the client to discuss their requirements and advise them on the colour and style of the painting to complement their interior and add colour and warmth to their home

3

Creativity

When creating a painting I use my 'artistic licence' to try to inject colour and atmosphere into the scene. I am not concerned with conveying a photo realistic representation but more on enhancing it with bursts of colours and energy. My work has been described as vibrant, energetic and emotive and nothing makes me happier than to see my paintings hanging in their new homes.
