There are places that never truly leave us. No matter how far life takes us, they remain stitched into our hearts, waiting to welcome us home.
‘Where My Heart Finds Home’ is inspired by the breathtaking coastline of Newcastle, County Down, where I was fortunate enough to grow up. It is a place woven into my happiest childhood memories, endless summer days on the beach, salty sea air, wildflowers dancing in the breeze, and the ever-present silhouette of the majestic Mourne Mountains watching over the sea.
This painting is less about capturing a landscape and more about capturing a feeling, that deep sense of peace that comes when the sea meets the sky, where time seems to slow and life’s worries melt away.
Layers of luminous blues, soft violets, fresh greens and joyful pinks celebrate the ever-changing light that makes this coastline so magical, while the wildflowers in the foreground remind us that beauty often blooms in the simplest of moments.
For me, Newcastle will always be more than a place. It is where my love of nature began, where my creativity was nurtured, and where some of my most treasured memories were made. My hope is that this painting evokes those special places held in your own heart, that remind you of home and the simple joy of belonging.
